A paralysed sheep has stunned the internet after learning how to drive her own electric wheelchair.
The animal, called Kiki, has become an online star, with some viewers even promising to ditch meat after seeing her.
Sanctuary owner Deb Devlin saved Kiki back in 2021 after being told the lamb couldn’t walk and was severely malnourished.
Vets had recommended putting her down, but Deb thought the little sheep deserved a chance at life.
Kiki was born with fused joints and spinal problems after her mother contracted a mosquito-borne illness called Cache Valley virus.
Despite her health issues, Deb believed she could thrive with the right care, nutrition, and a bit of creativity.
From Toys To Wheelchair
Deb noticed something incredible when Kiki was still young. She could activate baby toys with her head, making them light up or sing.
That’s when Deb realised she might be able to control an electric wheelchair in the same way.
With help from donors, Deb raised $1,500 to work with a mobility company to create a custom chair.
The design included a stroller bed so Kiki could lie down while pushing a joystick with her head.
‘It’s A Miracle’
Footage shared on July 1 shows Kiki confidently moving her wheelchair around the sanctuary yard.
She presses the joystick with the right side of her head, steering towards the horses’ paddock to baa at them.
Deb says the breakthrough has completely transformed Kiki’s life: “It’s magical, it feels like the missing piece she needed.”
She added: “It’s been tough, but it’s truly amazing. It’s a miracle.”
Before this, Kiki only had a manual dog wheelchair, which staff pushed around during walks.
The new setup means she finally has independence and can explore the sanctuary on her own terms.
“She’s gone to places I didn’t expect,” Deb said. “It’s so exciting seeing her live a proper life.”
“She’s even inspired doctors, who say they’ll show her story to patients learning to use their own wheelchairs.”
Changing Minds About Sheep
Deb says Kiki’s intelligence has shocked people online. “She’s a food animal, and many don’t think sheep can be smart,” she explained.
“But she’s wowed so many people. Some have even said they’ll never eat meat again.”
One commenter said: “I will never eat lamb chops ever again. I had no idea they were this smart!”
Another wrote: “Kiki is amazing and such an inspiration. Thank you for giving her such a beautiful life.”
A third added: “You are a true miracle, Kiki. Proof of resilience and the love of incredible humans.”
Deb says that kind of reaction proves why saving Kiki was worth every second.
“She’s such an inspiration,” she said. “I just wanted her to have quality of life. Now she has freedom too.”
A New Kind Of Star
Kiki’s videos have gone viral across social media, gaining thousands of views and turning her into something of an internet celebrity.
She might not know it, but her determination has sparked conversations about animal intelligence, compassion, and even vegetarianism.
For Deb, that’s the most rewarding part: “She was bred for slaughter. But look at her now – inspiring the world.”
