A gender reveal party in Mexico took a tragic turn when a stunt plane participating in the celebration crashed in front of unsuspecting guests, leading to a renewed debate about the safety and necessity of such events.
In a video shared on social media, the unidentified couple at the center of the gender reveal can be seen holding hands in front of a large illuminated sign reading “Oh Baby,” surrounded by friends and family. The ill-fated Piper PA-25-235 Pawnee plane filled the San Pedro sky with pink smoke, and ground-based confetti cannons added to the festive atmosphere.
However, the celebratory mood took a sharp and horrifying turn when the plane’s left wing appeared to fail, causing the pilot, later identified as 32-year-old Luis Ángel N., to pull the small aircraft upward, setting off a chaotic spiral that ended in a crash. Astonishingly, the guests on the ground seemed completely unaware of the unfolding tragedy in the sky.
Local authorities were alerted to the incident by a concerned partygoer who called for help. Paramedics arrived at the scene, and the pilot was rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, he did not survive.
The shocking video quickly went viral, reigniting the ongoing debate surrounding gender reveal parties and their potential risks.
“These gender reveal parties are getting out of hand when people die annually because of them,” lamented one social media user.
Another expressed their dismay, commenting on the video, “The way the camera panned back to the couple with not the slightest care in the world for the pilot is sad.”
“For a moment, I actually thought all the screaming was because they saw the plane,” remarked a third observer. “But no, it looks and sounds like only the cameraman noticed (at least initially).”
Some social media users speculated about the possible causes of the tragic plane crash.
“Look carefully at the timing of the sudden upward movement; it exactly coincides with the CO2 cannon firing on the ground,” suggested one keen-eyed observer. “It seems to me that the aircraft was literally blasted out of the sky.”

An Australian family even inadvertently set their car ablaze in 2019 while using special tires designed to emit blue smoke to announce their baby’s gender.
These gender reveal mishaps prompted Jenna Karvunidis, a popular mommy blogger often credited with popularizing these celebrations, to issue an apology for her role in promoting them.
