Chris Hemsworth Shares Honest Health Update After Alzheimer’s News

Chris Hemsworth has opened up about life since discovering his heightened genetic risk for Alzheimer’s disease.

The 41-year-old Marvel star first learned the news while filming Limitless, a Disney+ series exploring health and longevity.

During production, genetic testing revealed he carries two copies of the APOE4 gene — one from each parent.

That puts him at eight to ten times higher risk of developing Alzheimer’s compared to those without both copies.

Hemsworth explained the discovery gave him “motivation” to focus on wellbeing while also raising awareness for others.

But he admitted he was frustrated when headlines twisted his openness into false stories about dementia and retirement.

“It kind of p***ed me off,” he told Vanity Fair. “I was vulnerable, but the story became something else.”

Shifting His Approach

Since then, Hemsworth has eased back from extreme gym sessions and career overload.

“I used to crawl out of the gym, or it didn’t feel like enough,” he told Body + Soul.

Now he listens to his body more, incorporating mindfulness and stillness alongside strength training.

“I’ve realized time in solitude is just as important as time in the weights room,” he added.

Recently, Hemsworth shared his visit with Dr. Adeel Khan, a regenerative medicine specialist.

He revealed he’s exploring MUSE cell therapy, a treatment using stem cells linked to Professor Mari Dezawa’s research.

“His work gave me confidence I was in the right hands,” Hemsworth wrote in an Instagram post.

Family Comes First

Perhaps the biggest change is his work-life balance.

The actor, based in Byron Bay with wife Elsa Pataky and their three children, is more selective about projects.

“I was constantly stressed, going job to job,” he admitted. “Sometimes giving more actually meant diminishing returns.”

Now he weighs every role against family time, choosing presence at home over unnecessary guilt.

While interested in longevity, Hemsworth isn’t convinced by extreme “biohacking” routines like those promoted by tech mogul Bryan Johnson.

“You want to live longer, but not at the expense of joy,” he said. “Life has to be enjoyed.”

He added that embracing mortality is key: “We all have an expiration date. Denying it only causes suffering.”

Longevity expert Dr. Peter Attia has suggested lifestyle changes could lower Hemsworth’s risk to average levels.

For Hemsworth, the early warning was more blessing than curse.

“The imagined scenario is always worse than the reality,” he reflected. “But it made me pause and think.”

Despite everything, Hemsworth is still committed to acting.

He’ll return as Thor in Avengers: Doomsday, slated for release in winter 2026.

Asked about future solo Thor films, he said: “It’s something I love, so we’ll see what happens.”

As he put it best: “Real purpose comes in the quiet moments of reflection and stillness.”
