At the People’s Choice Country Awards, Toby Keith, the recipient of the Country Icon Award, offered an update on his ongoing battle with stomach cancer, a journey that has seen its share of ups and downs. Toby’s unwavering spirit shines through as he navigates this challenging chapter in his life.

In 2021, Toby Keith received the devastating diagnosis of stomach cancer, and since then, he has been confronting this formidable adversary head-on. Despite the hurdles, he maintains a hopeful outlook and is determined to toast to good health.

“I feel pretty good,” Toby remarked, shedding light on his condition. Back in June, he had shared the encouraging news that his tumor had shrunk by a third of its original size. In an exclusive conversation with E! News, Toby revealed, “It’s a little bit of a roller coaster. You get good days and, you know, you’re up and down, up and down. It’s always zero to 60 and 60 to zero, but I feel good today.”

The 62-year-old country music icon’s strength and resilience are evident as he continues to face his health challenges. His indomitable spirit serves as an inspiration to many, and his upcoming recognition at the People’s Choice Country Awards is a testament to his enduring impact on the industry.

“It’s nice to recognize my 30-year career,” Toby shared, acknowledging the milestone. The journey from aspiring musician to country music stalwart has been nothing short of remarkable. With humility and gratitude, he added, “It’s pretty mind-boggling.”

When asked about the aspect of his career that fills him with the most pride, Toby Keith unequivocally pointed to his songwriting. He walked the red carpet at the awards alongside his wife, Tricia Lucus, reflecting on the decades spent crafting heartfelt and memorable songs. “My songwriting,” Toby affirmed, “those years of pounding those songs out there and remembering where you were when each one was conceived and all that, it’s amazing.”

As the evening unfolded, Toby Keith took to the stage to perform “Don’t Let the Old Man,” a song featured in Clint Eastwood’s film “The Mule.” His performance added another layer of depth to an already captivating awards show.

The People’s Choice Country Awards also promised an array of unforgettable moments from other country music luminaries. The Grand Ole Opry stage witnessed stellar performances by artists like Blake Shelton, Dan+Shay, Little Big Town, and Kelsea Ballerini, leaving the audience in awe. These artists showcased their immense talent, proving once again why country music holds a special place in the hearts of fans everywhere.
