Suspect named after arrest following Charlie Kirk’s assassination

The FBI is set to deliver an update after law enforcement confirmed the identity of the alleged shooter.

Law enforcement sources have identified the suspect accused of assassinating Charlie Kirk during his September 10 speech at Utah Valley University.

Kirk, 31, was fatally shot while addressing students in an attack that shocked the nation and sparked an intensive FBI-led manhunt.

The bureau has been gradually releasing information, including images of a “person of interest” and CCTV footage that appeared to show the shooter climbing off a university rooftop before fleeing into the community.

Officials also appealed to the public for help, urging residents to share any surveillance or doorbell footage from the area that could aid the investigation.

Now, a law enforcement official speaking to the Associated Press has confirmed the suspect’s identity as Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old from Utah. The confirmation came ahead of an FBI press conference scheduled for later today.

President Donald Trump, who has closely followed the case, addressed the development during a live appearance on Fox News’ FOX & Friends.

While he stopped short of naming Robinson, Trump told viewers: “I think with a high degree of certainty we have [the suspect] in custody.”

He said a person close to the suspect had turned him in and praised the swift work of local and federal authorities.

“They did a great job,” Trump said. “Everybody was working together.”

The president also urged calm in the wake of Kirk’s death, acknowledging calls for retaliation but stressing that Kirk himself believed in non-violence.

“He was an advocate of non-violence—that’s the way I’d like to see people respond,” Trump said.
