See The Text Messages Charlie Kirk Shooting Suspect Exchanged with Roommate

Newly released charging documents detail alleged text messages between Charlie Kirk’s suspected killer, Tyler Robinson, and his roommate on the day of the shooting — messages that prosecutors say shed light on the planning and motive behind the attack.

Robinson, 22, was arrested last week in connection with the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk during a campus event at Utah Valley University. In court filings unsealed Tuesday, Utah County prosecutors outlined communications they say link Robinson directly to the assassination plot.

“I Had the Opportunity to Take Out Charlie Kirk”

According to the documents, Robinson’s roommate alerted police after discovering a handwritten note Robinson allegedly left under a computer keyboard. The note reportedly read:

“I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it.”

Investigators say a photo of the note was later recovered.

The charging documents describe how Robinson texted his roommate about the note and his weapon shortly before and after the shooting.

Prosecutors said the roommate — described in filings as “a biological male who was involved in a romantic relationship with Robinson” — provided the full exchange to investigators.

CNN, which obtained the filings, transcribed portions of the conversation, including Robinson’s mention of his rifle and directions for retrieving it after the shooting.

Prosecutors Cite Motive and Planning

Prosecutors allege the texts demonstrate premeditation, not a spontaneous act. The filings state Robinson discussed the rifle used in the shooting and left instructions for where it could be found after being abandoned in a wooded area.

The roommate is cooperating fully with law enforcement and is not considered a suspect, officials said.

What’s Next

Robinson is being held without bail and faces charges including aggravated murder. A preliminary hearing is expected later this month, where prosecutors are expected to introduce the texts and note as key evidence of intent.

The Utah County Attorney’s Office has not yet confirmed whether additional charges will be filed.
