Netflix has unveiled a new four-part documentary series delving into “true stories of human contact with otherworldly phenomena,” showcasing a mile-long “spaceship” and other UFO sightings reported around the world.
The documentary, titled “Encounters,” challenges the perception of alien encounters as mere conspiracy theories and instead explores firsthand accounts, backed by recent congressional hearings and revelations from Pentagon whistleblowers and major journalistic institutions.
Executive produced by Amblin Television, Emmy-winning Boardwalk Pictures, and Vice Studios, “Encounters” is directed by Yon Motskin (known for “Generation Hustle”). It embarks on a journey to examine four remarkable true stories of encounters with extraterrestrial phenomena that have left a profound impact on individuals, families, and communities.
Each episode focuses on a single story from around the world, presenting the encounters from the perspective of those who experienced them, often in the very locations where they occurred. The series is not limited to scientific analysis but delves into the human side of these encounters.
The synopsis for the series reads: “For decades, we’ve relegated alien encounters to the realm of conspiracy, dismissing those who’ve seen the unexplainable. Now congressional hearings on UFOs bringing revelations from whistleblowers about clandestine Pentagon programs and major journalistic institutions confirm that… we are not alone.”
The first episode of the documentary provides new details about a suspected UFO sighting that occurred in 2007-2008 near Stephenville, Texas. Over 300 locals reported witnessing a massive object in the sky, with some describing it as a mile-long and four city blocks wide.
Residents in and around Stephenville recounted their experiences, with one witness, Steve Allen, the owner of a trucking company, describing blinding lights and an overwhelming sense of peace. Others, like Pat Leatherwood, a bank chairman, referred to it as a “flying Dorito.” Constable Lee Roy Gaitan and his son witnessed an orb appearing in the sky before rapidly zooming away.
Director Yon Motskin, speaking about the documentary, stated, “UFOs, UAPs, nonhuman intelligence, whatever we might call it… I didn’t before, but now I think it exists. It’s out there. People are just now starting to accept it as something that’s acceptable to talk about.”
“Encounters” aims to shed light on the extraordinary and globally experienced phenomenon of extraterrestrial encounters, exploring the uncanny similarities between seemingly unrelated sightings across different places, times, and cultures. The series seeks to present a new understanding of these encounters, revealing them as awe-inspiring and unlike anything previously imagined.
