Kid Rock a Top Donor to Marine Vet Defense in Subway Chokehold Death

Country rapper Kid Rock has made a $5,000 donation to support ex-Marine Daniel Penny’s legal defense fund.

Penny is facing manslaughter charges after a fatal incident in which he put Jordan Neely in a chokehold on a New York City subway train.

The fundraising campaign organized by Penny’s lawyers has garnered significant attention, with nearly 50,000 donations totaling over $2.2 million as of Monday.

In his donation message on the Christian crowdfunding website GiveSendGo, Kid Rock took a swipe at Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, stating, “Mr. Penny is a hero. Alvin Bragg is a POS. Kid Rock.” This move aligns with Kid Rock’s reputation for championing conservative causes and his vocal support for libertarian values throughout his career.

The incident that led to the charges occurred on May 1, when Penny placed Neely in a chokehold on a New York City subway station train, resulting in Neely’s death. Following the release of a video showing the three-minute chokehold, protests erupted across New York City, demanding legal action against Penny. Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg subsequently announced that Penny would be prosecuted for manslaughter without convening a grand jury.

Kid Rock’s support for Penny comes after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis shared a link to the fundraising website in a tweet, criticizing Bragg and expressing solidarity with Penny. The rapper’s contribution adds to the growing list of public figures who have donated to Penny’s defense fund and publicized their support.

Penny, who was released on a $100,000 bond, is scheduled to appear in court on July 17. He has yet to enter a plea in response to the charges against him.

While Kid Rock’s donation and public statements have garnered attention, it is essential to note the broader context of his career and involvement in political controversies.

Kid Rock’s outspoken nature and conservative views have been showcased in various incidents throughout his career, such as his criticism of trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney’s partnership with Bud Light and his previous use of the Confederate flag during concerts.
