Jennifer Lawrence Admits She Slept With Director Of Her Movie

Jennifer Lawrence, despite her intimate involvement with the director, Darren Aronofsky, remains perplexed about the intricacies of one of her most notable films.

The actress gained fame as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games series and received an Academy Award for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook in 2012. In 2017, Lawrence took on the lead role in Aronofsky’s enigmatic horror film, Mother!, a cinematic experience laden with symbolism and tone rather than a conventional focus on character and plot.

During a conversation with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live, Lawrence openly confessed to her ongoing confusion regarding the film. When Cohen queried, “On a scale of one to totally confused, how much did you understand your film Mother!?” Lawrence humorously responded, “I’m going to be honest. Well, I was sleeping with the director, so I had CliffsNotes. So… five? Or a four. But if anybody needs any tips on understanding their films, you know what to do!” She playfully acknowledged the unconventional method of seeking insights into a movie’s meaning.

In a 2017 interview with Deadline, Lawrence attempted to shed light on Mother!’s narrative complexity. She emphasized that the film operates on an allegorical level, exploring themes of creation, destruction, and incorporating Biblical elements. Lawrence described her role as representing Mother Earth, drawing parallels to religious motifs. She said, “I represent Mother Earth, and what I have is Baby Jesus – if we guess the religion. I play this woman who has built this home from the ground up. I’m in a relationship with an artist who is obsessed with needing appreciation from me first, and then I’m not enough.”

Jennifer Lawrence and Darren Aronofsky were romantically involved, dating for a year before parting ways in November 2017. The actress shed light on the challenges of dating the director during promotional tours, expressing the difficulty of separating personal and professional aspects. In an interview with Variety, she remarked, “Normally, I promote a movie, ask people to go see it, and then it’s just out of your hands. I normally just kind of let it go. Dating the director was different. We’d be on the [press] tour together, and that’s all he wants to talk about, and I get it. It’s his baby. He wrote it. He conceived it. He directed it. I was doing double duty trying to be a supportive partner while also being like, ‘Can I please, for the love of God, not think about Mother! for one second?’”

Jennifer Lawrence later married art dealer Cooke Maroney in 2019, and the couple welcomed their son Cy in February of the following year. Despite the passage of time, Lawrence’s playful admission about Mother! continues to add a touch of humor to her cinematic journey.
