Gen Z have Cancelled Skinny Jeans and Suggested Alternative Style to Wear

Gen Z has made a bold fashion statement by canceling one of Millennials’ favorite fashion trends: skinny jeans.

Millennials, born between 1981 and 1996, earned their generational identity as they came of age around the year 2000. Gen Z, on the other hand, born between 1997 and 2012, entered the world with smartphones and social media apps already at their fingertips, making them the digital dynamos of their time.

Every generation has its unique quirks and trends, but it seems that Gen Z enjoys poking fun at their older counterparts. One particular item of clothing has garnered significant disdain from this younger generation – skinny jeans. A young TikTok user took to the platform to express their distaste for this once-beloved fashion item.

Yes, skinny jeans – the ubiquitous staple in many Millennials’ wardrobes. These slim-fitting jeans gained popularity in the mid-2000s and were often paired with other trendy items of the time, such as ballet flats, gladiator sandals, peplum tops, and statement necklaces. However, it appears that they have fallen out of favor with Gen Z.

TikTok creator Monette Kuittinen-Dhaoui used the platform to share three “styling” methods for skinny jeans with her tens of thousands of followers. In a tongue-in-cheek fashion, she humorously placed a pair of black skinny jeans into a trash bin, suggesting, “Just toss them away.”

For her second “styling” tip, she comically advised to “burn them,” and for the third, she recommended “cutting them up and making something else.” Naturally, this did not sit well with Millennials, who had fond memories of their beloved fashion staple.

One TikTok user expressed their affection for skinny jeans, saying, “I know some people hate them, but I really like them and feel really comfortable in them.” Another user added, “Just because you don’t like them doesn’t mean we all shouldn’t like it.”

A third user chimed in, saying, “Guys, what? I kinda like them…” The clash between fashion preferences across generations highlights the ever-evolving nature of style trends and how different age groups interpret and embrace them.

Gen Z have suggested cargo pants, utility trousers, flared, wide-leg or straight-leg mom jeans as an alternative.
