A Florida animal shelter just had a history-making moment — every single dog has been adopted. Yep, all of them.
Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control confirmed their kennels were completely empty for the first time ever.
No barking. No wagging tails behind bars. Just rows of spotless, empty cages and a bunch of very emotional volunteers.
Staff gathered in front of the empty kennels to celebrate and let out some well-earned cheers.
On Facebook, the shelter wrote:
“Thank you to the shelter staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to care for, find homes for, and advocate for the pets who come through these doors; thank you to our incredible foster parents who open their heart and homes to thousands of pets each year; thank you to everyone who has opted to adopt a shelter pet – whether it be here or from any of the other amazing organizations out there.”
Normally, the kennel shown is full of overflow pups, strays, and dogs waiting for a second chance.
But this week, it was officially dog-free — in the best possible way.
Don’t Worry — There Are Still Some Cuties Left
While all the dogs had been claimed, a few furry (and less furry) residents were still waiting for homes.
The shelter said they still had two cats, two horses, and a pig available for adoption.
Volunteers are continuing to care for the animals while keeping social distancing rules in place.
Just a couple of counties south, Miami-Dade Animal Services teamed up with Friends of Miami Animals Foundation to host a virtual adoption event.
The session streamed live on Facebook on April 16. Adoption counselors showcased pets, answered questions, and helped match animals with new families — all from behind a screen.
Basically, the whole region has gone full Zoom but for pets.
A wholesome win for the animals.
A happy cry for the humans.
And a second chance for every creature that walked — or trotted — through those shelter doors.
