A US Air Force cadet was found dead in her dorm room at just 19-years-old last month – the cause of death has just been confirmed.
Avery Koonce from Tyler, Texas sadly died due to pneumonia – a tragic event that could have been prevented according to one medical expert.
The 19-year-old was found unresponsive in her dorm room on September 4, due to “paeniclostridium sordelli sepsis complicating parainfluenza laryngotraceobronchitis,” according to her autopys report.
Forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Baden, who reviewed the autopsy, said; “In essence she died of untreated pneumonia,”. Baden described it as a “relatively rare but potentially fatal anaerobic bacteria” that is “associated with a toxic shock-like syndrome that can rapidly progress to death.”.
Baden stated that the bacteria “could have been treated with penicillin”.
“She first had the viral infection that diminished her immunity, so the bacteria were able to flourish,”
She likely showed symptoms before her sad passing, such as coughing, fever and a difficulty breathing.

Baden claims that “it was a curable situation with antibiotics,”.
Koonce’s parents shared the heartbreaking statement; “Our daughter Cadet Avery Koonce was an incredible bright light in this broken world,” “Our lives will forever be diminished because of her absence.”
RIP.
