Amanda Seyfried Hits Back After Backlash Over Charlie Kirk Comments

Amanda Seyfried has defended herself after sparking outrage online for calling the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk “hateful.”

The Mean Girls and Mamma Mia! star doubled down in an Instagram post on Wednesday, telling fans her words were being taken out of context.

Fans Slam Her Comments

Over the weekend, Seyfried had commented “hateful” under an Instagram post highlighting some of Kirk’s most controversial statements on abortion, immigration, and race.

She also shared a text post to her Stories that read: “You can’t invite violence to the dinner table and be shocked when it starts eating.”

The “Mamma Mia!” actress faced criticism Sunday when she called Kirk, who was shot and killed on Sept. 10, “hateful” under an Instagram post that displayed controversial quotes from the right-wing political activist.

That didn’t go down well. Critics branded her “Hollywood trash” and accused her of “supporting violence.” Others even called for a boycott of her new movie The Housemaid with Sydney Sweeney, which lands in cinemas this Friday.

“Nuance of Humanity”

“We’re forgetting the nuance of humanity,” she wrote.

“I can get angry about misogyny and racist rhetoric and ALSO very much agree that Charlie Kirk’s murder was absolutely disturbing and deplorable in every way imaginable.

“No one should have to experience this level of violence. This country is grieving too many senseless and violent deaths and shootings. Can we agree on that at least?”

She insisted she wasn’t trying to “add fuel to the fire,” but said she wanted to make things clear after her comments caused a storm.

Seyfried Stands Firm

Despite the backlash, Seyfried hasn’t backed down. She told her followers that “spirited discourse” is healthy and that her anger at Kirk’s rhetoric doesn’t cancel out her condemnation of his killing.

But online, opinion is still split — with some applauding her honesty, while others accuse her of crossing the line.
