One woman has taken commuting to a whole new level by opting to travel by plane every week for her internship, as it turns out to be a more cost-effective choice compared to renting.
Sophia Celentano, the savvy traveler who has gained popularity on TikTok, recently went viral after sharing her unique working routine with her thousands of followers.
She explained that her unconventional journey to work allows her to save a significant amount of money on expensive rent in the eastern coastal region of New Jersey. Sophia’s morning routine has attracted attention; let’s take a look at it:

In an interview with Business Insider, Sophia delved deeper into her decision to endure the hassle of weekly plane travel for her internship. After receiving an offer from Ogilvy, Sophia’s initial instinct was to commute to the office, as she only needed to physically be there for one mandatory day per week.
She explained, “From my perspective, I didn’t really see it worth getting a really expensive place by the office if I was only needing to be there for eight hours of the week. I guess I never really saw super-commuting as a daunting thing.”
Sophia proceeded to outline her morning routine: “When I first started, I’d get up at like 3 am to get ready for the plane ride, but now I wake up around 3:30 am or 3:45 am. I do my makeup and hair first, put on my business casual outfit, and then I get my bag ready. I usually pack a lunch, some comfortable clothes, and then bring a coffee to go.” She typically leaves the house at around 4:30 am and arrives at the airport by 5 am.
“The airport security line really only takes five to 10 minutes for me since I have TSA PreCheck,” she added. “I’m usually at my gate by around 5:15 am, which is exactly when boarding starts.”
Once the flight is over, Sophia immediately calls an Uber and reaches the office at approximately 8:30 or 8:45 am, right on time to start her full 9-to-5 workday.
After completing her work, Sophia hops back on a plane, landing around 11 pm either in Charleston, where her parents reside, or Richmond, Virginia, where her boyfriend lives. “The next day, because I work remotely, I’m able to sleep in a bit, so that helps a lot,” she shared. “I don’t have to wake up until around 8 am to start work.”
While she acknowledged that the commute can be tiring, Sophia firmly believes it’s worth it.
She explained that super-commuting allows her to strike a healthy work-life balance. When people inquire about her jet-setting lifestyle, she often shares her money-saving strategies. By booking her flights three to four weeks in advance, she can secure reasonably priced fares of around $100 for a round trip. Additionally, she spends about $100 on Uber rides between the office and the airport. Sophia pointed out that if she were living in the New York City or New Jersey area, she would be spending thousands of dollars each month on rent alone.
Although she recognizes that her approach may not be suitable for everyone, Sophia revealed, “I feel like I’ve gotten used to the whole hustle of traveling every week, and it really doesn’t bother me. If anything, I really look forward to it. I love being at the airport. I love the adventure of it. I think it’s really nice to be able to wake up in one city and then start my workday in another.”
Talk about commitment!
