Whoopi Goldberg came to the defense of Dolly Parton after the country superstar faced criticism for her attire during her performance at The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Kickoff Halftime Show on Thanksgiving Day at the Dallas Cowboys game. The 77-year-old icon sported a bedazzled version of the Dallas Cowboys cheerleader uniform, capturing attention and garnering mixed reactions.
Responding to the critics on a recent episode of The View, Goldberg expressed her support for Dolly Parton, stating, “Seventy-seven-year-old superstar Dolly Parton stole the show on Thanksgiving at the Cowboys/Commanders game dressed as a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, but some critics told her to act her age. Bite me.”
Goldberg humorously acknowledged that Parton’s Thanksgiving attire became a subject of online discussions, and she didn’t shy away from defending the iconic singer against age-related criticisms.
Sunny Hostin, Goldberg’s co-host on The View, joined in with a light-hearted take on Parton’s outfit. Hostin playfully expressed admiration, saying, “If I looked like that in one of them Cowboy things, I might have everything out.” She humorously pointed at a picture from Parton’s performance and added, “I don’t know if that’s a belly ring or what, but I want what she has.”
Dolly Parton’s halftime performance featured her wearing a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader-inspired ensemble, complete with belted white shorts, a white vest adorned with blue stars, and a blue crop top. To add her signature sparkle, she wore a bedazzled mesh catsuit covering her midriff and legs, and a crystal star concealed her belly button.
Parton kicked off her performance with the iconic “Jolene” and later treated the audience to a cover of Queen’s “We Are the Champions.” Before taking the stage, she shared in a press statement that partnering with The Salvation Army was an honor, emphasizing the significance of the Red Kettles as a symbol of hope for those facing challenging times.
Expressing her dedication to encouraging donations and supporting neighbors in need, Parton said, “Every small act of generosity helps, and together, we can all love our neighbors this holiday season and beyond.”
November marked a particularly active month for Dolly Parton, as she released her 49th solo album, “Rockstar,” which quickly became her highest-charting album on the Billboard 200 charts after its November 17 release. In a statement, she expressed gratitude to her fans for their unwavering support, acknowledging the collective effort that made the achievement possible and thanking everyone involved in the project.
