Truth behind if Alien Egg Toys from the 90s could Actually have Babies

If you were a child growing up in the 90s, you likely experienced the thrill of primary school playground gossip—the kind that ranged from the rumored banning of Toxic Waste sweets due to a fatal consumption to the intriguing possibility that those little Alien Egg toys had the ability to give birth.

In those days, there was always that one kid vehemently swearing that their Alien Egg had indeed given birth to a tiny alien.

The reasons behind this miraculous event varied from one playground to another—one school insisted it occurred if you were fortunate enough to have one of the special ones, while another asserted that placing it in the fridge would trigger the birth.

It’s the kind of childhood mystery that lingers, leaving people unsure whether it’s truth or myth. Let’s delve into the story to uncover a possible answer.

The Alien Egg, introduced in 1999 by Martin Grossman, originated from a 3 a.m. brainstorming session, according to Vice.

By Christmas of the same year, Grossman had sold an astonishing three million of these toys, and rumors about their alleged ability to give birth had already spread like wildfire. Children everywhere clamored to possess the plastic egg housing a gooey alien, fueled by the belief that these aliens might spring to life as the new millennium dawned.

Such was the fervor surrounding these toys that one of the aliens found by a cleaner at a tube station prompted a rush to the hospital, as some mistook it for a foetus, as reported by The Guardian in 1999.

Over the years, millions more Alien Eggs have been sold, and the idea that they could give birth has endured.

As the craze intensified, certain Alien Eggs were manufactured with tiny babies inside the pod. However, this felt somewhat like cheating since the playground myth insisted that you could buy one of them and, by some mysterious process, make it give birth on its own.

Whether this was achievable might have depended on the version of the alien you owned, as the original Alien Eggs, or OG Alien Eggs, couldn’t give birth.

Various individuals have claimed to unravel the chemical process that allegedly induces an alien birth, with one YouTuber suggesting that adding sugar and salt could trigger the phenomenon.

However, the accuracy of such claims remains dubious, and attempting this at home might result in a messy experiment.

In an attempt to verify these claims, LADbible conducted experiments on popular myths surrounding the Alien Eggs a few years ago, all of which proved unsuccessful. Seeking an official verdict, LADbible consulted Julie Pittilla, who has been handling PR for the Alien Egg since its inception.

According to her, while the Alien Eggs sold exceptionally well, the notion of them giving birth was “really out of the knowledge of mere humans.”
