Recently, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner disclosed the distressing cause of Maleesa Mooney’s death. Their official ruling is that she succumbed to homicidal violence.
In addition to this chilling determination, her case file also mentions “other significant conditions” contributing to her demise.
As if the tragedy weren’t heart-wrenching enough, Maleesa was carrying new life within her at the time of her passing—she was two months pregnant, as confirmed by her sister, Jourdin Pauline. Speaking about the harrowing loss, Jourdin expressed her pain, stating, “I can’t imagine what my sister went through, and it pains me to even think about it.”
The circumstances leading to the discovery of Maleesa’s lifeless body began with a welfare check initiated by the Los Angeles Police Department. On September 12, at approximately 3:54 p.m., officers responded to a call concerning Maleesa’s well-being at her downtown Los Angeles residence. The concern had been raised by her family, who became increasingly alarmed when they realized that Maleesa had abruptly severed all communication.
Bailey Babb, Maleesa’s cousin, shed light on the family’s growing unease, saying, “When a week went by, we just knew something was off. Her messages weren’t delivering, and we knew something was up because we all have a special relationship with Maleesa.”
Despite the passage of time and the revelation of her tragic cause of death, no arrests have been made in connection with Maleesa Mooney’s demise. The investigation remains active and ongoing, shrouded in an air of mystery.
Amidst the anguish and sorrow, Maleesa’s loved ones have taken up the mantle of seeking justice for her. A GoFundMe campaign, launched on behalf of her mother, Margaret McDonald, attests to the determination of those who wish to see justice served. The fundraiser’s description emphasizes their resolve to remember Maleesa for the beautiful and kind soul she was, even in the face of such a senseless and brutal loss.
“Even though she was taken in a vicious, senseless and heinous way,” the description reads, “we would like to remember Maleesa in all of the glorious ways God divinely made her to be.”
Further paying tribute to her character, it continues, “Maleesa was an extremely sweet and generous soul. She saw the good in everyone and lit up every room she entered. Maleesa was just as smart as she was beautiful and had one of the most compassionate and giving hearts you’d ever meet.”
In a disturbing coincidence, Maleesa Mooney’s lifeless body was discovered just two days after fellow model Nichole Coats was also found deceased in her downtown Los Angeles apartment. Despite this proximity in time and location, authorities have indicated that they do not believe the two cases are connected.
The quest for answers continues, with law enforcement urging anyone with information related to Maleesa’s murder to come forward.
LAPD detectives Pierce and Marcinek can be reached at 213-996-4150, and anonymous tips can be submitted online or by calling 1-800-222-8477.
