Paris Hilton’s decision to opt for surrogacy for the birth of her two children stems from the trauma she experienced during her teenage years, specifically during her time at Utah’s Provo Canyon School. In a recent interview with Romper, the socialite revealed the impact of the PTSD she still carries from that period.
Reflecting on her decision, Hilton explained, “If I’m in a doctor’s office, I get a shot, anything, I will literally have a panic attack and I can’t breathe.” Her concern was for both her well-being and the baby’s, recognizing that being inside someone with high anxiety wouldn’t be healthy.
In 2020, Hilton publicly disclosed allegations of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse during her nearly year-long stay at Provo Canyon School. The traumatic experiences included nonconsensual gynecological examinations against her will. The school, now under different ownership, has refrained from commenting on past operations or student experiences.
Hilton’s fear of pregnancy, influenced by her past trauma, was previously discussed in an interview with Glamour UK, where she expressed deep apprehension about childbirth. She elaborated on the anxiety associated with medical settings and procedures, drawing a connection to her time at Provo.
Beyond the emotional considerations, Hilton also acknowledged the practical challenges of pregnancy. Her tightly packed schedule, which includes being the face of Hilton Hotels, the founder of 11:11 media company, the host of the “I am Paris” podcast, the star of Peacock’s “Paris in Love,” and the owner of a kitchenware line, among other roles, made it nearly impossible to find the right time for pregnancy.
“My schedule is out of control,” she noted, emphasizing the lack of time in her life for such a significant undertaking. Managing her busy work life while dealing with the side effects of pregnancy would have been an enormous challenge.
Although Hilton hasn’t taken any maternity leave since welcoming her son Phoenix in January and daughter London last month, she admitted to slowing down slightly since the arrival of her second child. Despite the difficulties on her path to motherhood, Hilton expressed that her life now feels complete with two children.
While she considers two kids the “perfect” number, Hilton hasn’t ruled out the possibility of having one more child in the future. Reflecting on her change of perspective, she recalled how she used to find the idea of going home to kids and a husband “lame” but now feels content with her family life.
As Hilton continues her diverse professional pursuits, including her role as a DJ and aspirations as a pop star, she treasures the newfound joy and fulfillment that motherhood has brought to her life.
