Miley Cyrus Says She ‘Didn’t Make a Dime’ Off of Her Bangerz Tour

Miley Cyrus, the multifaceted artist known for her boundary-pushing creativity, recently shared some candid insights about her past artistic endeavors and financial investments. In a TikTok segment promoting her single “Used to Be Young,” Cyrus opened up about her 2014 Bangerz tour, revealing that she footed the bill for many of its iconic props, even though it meant not profiting from the tour’s substantial earnings.

Reflecting on the Bangerz tour, which left an indelible mark on pop culture, Cyrus explained that she took it upon herself to finance numerous outlandish props that were integral to the show’s unique vision. These props included a colossal model of her own tongue, oversized beds, and gigantic puppets. The goal was to realize her creative vision, which she shared with her creative director, Diane Martel, and bring it to life on stage.

In her TikTok video, Cyrus expressed the sentiment behind her investments in the tour, stating, “The Bangerz tour was an investment in myself.” She acknowledged that some of the ideas for the tour were so unconventional that they struggled to gain support from traditional channels. Still, Cyrus was committed to making her artistic vision a reality, no matter the cost.

One standout moment from the tour involved a reference to the 1999 comedy-drama film “The Truman Show,” starring Jim Carrey. Cyrus and Martel wanted to conclude the show with a nod to the film, and Cyrus opted to fly out on a massive hot dog prop, mirroring a scene from “The Truman Show” where Jim Carrey’s character exits through a giant exit sign. Cyrus felt a strong personal connection to the film, believing it reflected aspects of her own life.

Despite the Bangerz tour grossing over $62 million, Cyrus made a surprising revelation in her TikTok video: she “didn’t make a dime” from the tour’s proceeds. This decision was a deliberate one, as she chose to prioritize the quality and excellence of the show over financial gain. Even when her team expressed concerns that she wouldn’t profit from the investment, Cyrus remained steadfast in her decision. She reiterated, “there is no one I would rather invest in than myself.”

In her TikTok series “Used to Be Young,” Cyrus has been offering glimpses into her musical career, sharing stories and anecdotes from her journey as an artist. One recent episode delved into the backstory of her 2007 hit, “See You Again.” Cyrus revealed that her record label at the time initially didn’t believe the song would become a hit, leading to the absence of an official music video. However, her devoted fans thought otherwise, catapulting the song into Billboard’s top 10.

Miley Cyrus’s openness about her creative choices and financial investments sheds light on her dedication to her craft and her commitment to pushing artistic boundaries, regardless of the financial implications. Her willingness to invest in herself and her vision serves as a testament to her artistic integrity and determination to create unforgettable experiences for her fans.
