Martha Stewart Slammed for taking ‘Small Iceberg’ from Greenland to Use in Cocktail

Renowned TV personality Martha Stewart is finding herself at the center of controversy following her decision to incorporate a small iceberg from Iceland into her cocktails, a move that has drawn criticism from environmental advocates and concerned individuals.

Stewart, widely recognized for her television presence and lifestyle expertise, took to social media to share highlights of her recent journey to Iceland aboard an expedition ship. In her Instagram post, she chronicled the culmination of her first zodiac cruise, wherein the ship ventured into the picturesque fjords of Greenland’s eastern coast. Accompanying the images, Stewart’s caption read, “End of the first zodiac cruise… into a very beautiful fjord on the east coast of Greenland. We actually captured a small iceberg for our cocktails tonight.”

The carousel of photos showcased the distinctive cocktail featuring the iceberg, Stewart beaming beside the frosty libation with the extracted iceberg neatly positioned on a cart beside her.

However, the response from her audience was less than favorable, particularly from those who hold the environment close to heart. Many expressed their dismay at what they perceived as a thoughtless act, given the context of ongoing climate concerns.

One commenter voiced their mixed feelings: “I generally love Martha and the excesses of her life because she’s about beautiful gardens, homes, and food. But wealthy white people drinking their iceberg cocktails while the planet is in flames is a bit tone deaf.”

Another critic addressed the broader issue at play: “So as the climate warms due to the profits of a couple thousand people, billionaires vacation to the melting icebergs, scoop them up and use them to keep their cocktails cold.”

A third commenter highlighted the counterproductive nature of the act: “Melting icebergs for a cocktail surely won’t help. I’m not even going to talk about the boat you’re on and how that can’t be good for climate change either.”

Nonetheless, not all responses to Stewart’s escapade were unfavorable. Some viewers saw her post as a window into her ostensibly glamorous expedition, focusing on the aesthetic allure rather than its implications.

One admirer praised her appearance: “Incredible and Martha you look gorgeous as ever!!” Another individual seemed to miss the overarching message, instead marveling at the visual beauty of icebergs: “Love how icebergs look blue close up!! I visited some in New Zealand like that, just gorgeous!”

Amidst the criticism, a touch of humor emerged: “If you can’t find fresh icebergs for your cocktails, store bought is fine.”

While the controversial cocktails garnered significant attention, Stewart’s broader post shared glimpses of the captivating icebergs situated within their natural oceanic domain, a stark contrast to their presence in cruise cocktails. The assortment of images included Stewart donning cold weather attire on the ship’s deck, capturing the essence of her journey.

Throughout her social media updates, Stewart provided insights into her Icelandic exploration. The initial images featured a fox within an Icelandic volcano, followed by her visit to the Sky Lagoon. Subsequently, she embarked on a ship voyage across the Denmark Straits, describing the experience as “a bit rough.”

As Martha Stewart’s voyage unfolds in the public eye, her choice to incorporate a small iceberg into her cocktails continues to fuel discussions about environmental awareness, celebrity influence, and the evolving responsibilities of individuals in a changing world.
