Tragic details have come out after One Direction star Liam Payne was found dead at the age of 31.
The star died after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires. He had allegedly arrived earlier this month to attend his former bandmate, Niall Horan’s concert.
It has since been reported that he was acting erratically and had to be escorted back into his hotel room before he fell to his death.
Staff at the hotel reported hearing a loud noise in the courtyard before his body was found.
It has been reported that he had been ‘acting erratically in the hotel lobby and smashed his laptop’ before he ‘had to be carried back to his room’, as reported by local media.
Multiple witnesses shared that Payne fell from his room on the third floor of the Casa Sur Palmero Hotel not long after 5pm on 16 October.
In the wake of the heartbreaking news, fans gathered outside the hotel to pay their respects to the star.
According to a police statement, authorities arrived on the scene after they were ‘informed of an aggressive man who may have been under the effects of drugs and alcohol’.
City ambulance service provider spokesman Alberto Crescenti shared that he had fallen around 40 metres and the body had ‘severe injuries which were incompatible with life.’
‘The alarm was raised at 5.04pm local time saying a person was lying in an internal patio at Casa Sur.
‘At 5.11pm an ambulance arrived and the man was certified dead.
‘Afterwards we found out he had been a famous singer. Unfortunately the injuries he had suffered as a result of the fall proved to be fatal. There was no possibility of resuscitating him.’
He shared that the pop star had ‘very serious injuries after falling from a third floor into an internal courtyard’.
‘We verified his identity using the passport he had,’.
Speaking to a local newspaper, Crescenti shared that ‘the team saw that he apparently had a fracture at the base of the skull’.
His body was taken to a local morgue for a post-mortem to be carried out.
Payne’s final Snapchat post showed him with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy and appearing happy – a picture that was originally captured last August.
