Kristen Stewart Bravely Opens Up About Her Mental Health Struggles

Kristen Stewart became a global star overnight after playing Bella Swan in the Twilight films.

But the sudden fame hit her hard and left her dealing with severe mental health struggles behind the scenes.

Twilight became one of the most successful book-to-film franchises ever, cementing its place in pop culture. Its leads, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, were thrust into extreme celebrity almost instantly.

For Stewart, the shift was overwhelming and deeply destabilizing.

Twilight’s Spotlight Landed Stewart in the Hospital

In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Stewart, now 34, opened up about how fame affected both her body and mind.

She recalled being rushed to the hospital during the Twilight craze because her anxiety physically shut her down.

“(At the hospital) they were like, ‘She’s dehydrated.’ I was like, ‘I’m not dehydrated. I’m… flipping out,’” she said.

Doctors gave her an IV and a mild sedative before her muscles began relaxing.

She revealed she also suffered from intense insomnia and vomiting whenever anxiety spiked. “I was always like, ‘Who knows? I could spontaneously combust in a puddle of puke right now.’”

But the most concerning part for Stewart was her obsession with sadness. “I loved to be sad,” she admitted. “Oh my God. I made a complete art project out of it, my whole life.”

The fame that fans thought looked glamorous felt terrifying to her. Stepping outside or being photographed became physically draining.

How Life Finally Turned Around for Kristen Stewart

Stewart says the anxiety lingered for years. Things only began to improve once she met her fiancée, writer Dylan Meyer.

After moving in together, Meyer helped her build a healthier routine.

“When she moved into this house, I had no curtains, three forks, and I never drank coffee. I was like, ‘I don’t sleep,’” Stewart explained.

“She’s like, ‘In the morning, you drink coffee and you work. At night, you close the curtains.’ It was so obvious in retrospect.”

She confirmed that the couple plan to marry soon but won’t have a big wedding because they’re both busy with work. Stewart also shared hopes for having children someday.

She isn’t afraid of being pregnant — but the idea of giving birth terrifies her. Still, she says she “really wants that to happen” when the time is right.
