Khloe Kardashian, renowned for her role in “Keeping Up With The Kardashians,” has officially changed her son’s name through legal means. Last summer, the reality TV star welcomed her second child, and now, almost a year later, she has made the decision to finalize her son’s moniker.
Khloe, who already has a five-year-old daughter named True, shares her second child with Canadian-American basketball player Tristan Thompson, 32. Initially, Khloe had left her son’s name as “Baby Kardashian” on his birth certificate, as she hadn’t yet decided on a permanent name. However, on August 31, a Los Angeles county judge granted the name change, and her son is now officially known as Tatum Thompson.
California law provides parents with the flexibility to choose either the paternal last name, the maternal last name, or a combination of the two for their child’s surname. Once the decision is made and officially granted, it typically becomes permanent unless there are exceptional circumstances that require court intervention.
This name change comes after TMZ reported in June that Khloe had initially given her son the legal surname Kardashian upon his birth but later opted to change it to Thompson.
Khloe’s journey to motherhood included the use of a surrogate mother for her second child, and she has candidly shared her experiences on “The Kardashians.” Her mother, Kris Jenner, offered her support during this process, encouraging Khloe to be kinder to herself.
Khloe expressed her struggles with self-criticism, saying, “I wish I wasn’t so critical of myself because I’m very kind to everyone else. I’m just not very kind to myself. But being a mom is truly one of the most magical experiences ever.”
Khloe and Tristan arranged for a surrogate to carry their second child, and it was during this time that news broke about Tristan fathering a child with another woman. Khloe’s representative confirmed that their second child was conceived in November and expressed gratitude for the surrogate’s role in their family.
In another episode of “The Kardashians,” Khloe opened up about her connection with her son. She discussed the differences in her emotional bond between her two children, True and Tatum, with Kris Jenner. Khloe described how she felt a quicker connection with her daughter True compared to her son Tatum, which raised questions for her.
She said, “With True, it took me a couple of days, to be like, ‘OK, this is my daughter and I was super into it,’ but just days. With him, it’s taking me months. I love him and I love kids, but I definitely still don’t have that complete bond, but so many people say it takes time.”
Kris offered her perspective, acknowledging that Khloe had been through a lot emotionally. She encouraged Khloe to be less critical of herself and recognized her dedication to her children. Kris reassured her daughter that she is attentive and caring, often being the “mother of the year” when she spends time with her family.
