Jennifer Lawrence Says Filming with Leonardo DiCaprio and Timothée Chalamet was ‘Absolute Misery’

The star-studded cast of Netflix’s Don’t Look Up, including Jennifer Lawrence, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, Timothée Chalamet, and Meryl Streep, might have seemed like a recipe for a fun and memorable experience.

However, according to Lawrence, filming the action-comedy about a giant meteor hurtling towards Earth was far from it.

In an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Lawrence recalled one particular scene that involved her, Chalamet, and DiCaprio all driving in a car together.

“They drove me crazy that day. I don’t know what it was,” she told Colbert. “I just remember being in absolute misery that day.”

Lawrence went on to explain that Chalamet was excited to be out of the house, as it was his first scene, and DiCaprio had picked the song that was playing in the car and was talking about its meaning.

While Lawrence assured that both stars are “very nice,” she couldn’t shake the feeling of being annoyed and miserable.

However, DiCaprio and Chalamet were not the only actors Lawrence had a hard time working with.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, she revealed that filming with Jonah Hill also presented its own set of challenges. “It was really, really hard filming with Jonah, and just not ruining take after take, laughing,” she explained. “We one time dedicated an entire day to him just improv-ing insults at me. It was amazing.”

Despite these challenges, Lawrence was starstruck on set and jokingly said she “felt like garbage” among the other stars. “Don’t worry about it, you don’t have to talk to me!” she said. “But yeah, that was amazing.”

The timing of the movie’s release in December 2021, following the coronavirus pandemic and worldwide lockdowns, also added to the challenges of filming.

For some of the stars, it marked the first time they had contact with other humans in a long time, which Lawrence believes contributed to the difficulties on set.

Despite the challenges, Don’t Look Up received positive reviews and has become one of Netflix’s most popular movies. Alongside Lawrence, DiCaprio, and Chalamet, the movie also features appearances from Mark Rylance, Ariana Grande, Cate Blanchett, and Chris Evans.

Overall, while the experience of filming Don’t Look Up might not have been entirely smooth sailing for Jennifer Lawrence, it’s clear that the challenges were worth it to create a memorable and entertaining movie for audiences to enjoy.
