Jenna Ortega Drops Out of ‘Scream VII’

Jenna Ortega will not be returning for ‘Scream VII.’

This news follows the firing of Melissa Barrera from the project. Ortega’s departure is reportedly unrelated to Barrera’s termination, and sources suggest that Ortega’s representatives informed Spyglass before the actors’ strike that she would not be returning.

The reasons for her departure include either not having a deal or requesting what the movie company considered too much money during the renegotiation of her option.

Spyglass had previously declined to bring back Neve Campbell after she requested a significant raise for ‘Scream VI.’

The future of the Scream franchise is now uncertain after losing two main leads, Barrera and Ortega, who played sisters in the series since 2022’s ‘Scream.’

Christopher Landon remains the director, but the next steps for Spyglass are unclear.

The previous two installments, ‘Scream’ (2022) and ‘Scream VI,’ were successful, grossing $137.7 million and $168.9 million globally, respectively.
