James Cameron Responds To Rumors He’s Making A Movie About OceanGate’s Titan

Taking to social media on Saturday, Cameron addressed the reports that had been circulating, seemingly frustrated by the unfounded claims. In a tweet, he stated, “I don’t respond to offensive rumors in the media usually, but I need to now. I’m NOT in talks about an OceanGate film, nor will I ever be.”

The speculation surrounding Cameron’s involvement emerged approximately one month after the Titan submersible was reported missing on June 18.

A thorough search was conducted over several days, but on June 23, the US Coast Guard and OceanGate confirmed that all five passengers aboard the submersible had tragically lost their lives.

The individuals identified were OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, Hamish Harding, Paul-Henri Nargeolet, Shahzada Dawood, and Suleman Dawood. Given Cameron’s extensive experience with the Titanic wreckage, his insights into the implosion have been of particular interest.

Cameron previously drew parallels between the captain of the Titanic and Stockton Rush, suggesting that Rush had ignored concerns and warnings regarding the safety of the submersible.

In an interview with ABC News last month, Cameron revealed that prominent figures in the deep-submergence engineering community had expressed reservations about OceanGate’s experimental approach and had even written letters to the company. These experts emphasized the need for certification and caution due to the nature of the mission.

The acclaimed filmmaker further disclosed that he and several engineers had penned a letter to OceanGate officials to convey their apprehensions about the project. In light of recent developments, OceanGate announced last week that it has decided to suspend all exploration and commercial operations. Additionally, the company took down its social media pages, including those on platforms like LinkedIn and Facebook.

As the rumors suggesting Cameron’s involvement in an OceanGate film have been firmly refuted by the director himself, it appears that any plans for such a project are purely speculative and unfounded. Cameron’s focus remains on his ongoing endeavors in the film industry, and he will not be pursuing a cinematic retelling of the Titan submersible disaster.
