Jada Pinkett Smith gets emotional in Jay Shetty Podcast interview.
During a touching segment on Jay Shetty’s podcast, “On Purpose with Jay Shetty,” Jada Pinkett Smith was moved to tears by a heartfelt letter from her husband, Will Smith. The letter was a response to her revealing memoir, “Worthy,” and it highlighted the couple’s enduring love and complex relationship.
In the letter, read by Shetty, Will expressed his astonishment and emotional journey while reading Jada’s book. “Finishing ‘Worthy’ was like an emotional rollercoaster. Even after all these years together, your story still had the power to surprise and move me,” he said.
“You’re a unique combination of strength and vulnerability. I commend you for digging so deep. If I had read this 30 years ago, I would have hugged you more often. Welcome to the world of authors. My love for you knows no bounds. Now, go enjoy some Merlot and relax.”
Jada, never one to miss a beat, humorously retorted, “He knows I can’t drink Merlot! That’s exactly why I can’t leave him.”
The podcast teaser gave a sneak peek into Jada’s candid conversation about her life, her relationship with Will, and the personal insights she shares in “Worthy.” Among the revelations is the fact that she and Will have been living separately since 2016, shedding light on the couple’s challenges and growth.
The discussion also touched on the controversial moment when Will slapped comedian Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars, an incident that ignited a media frenzy.
Additionally, Jada opened up about her complicated relationship with her late father, Robsol Pinkett Jr., recalling a heartbreaking moment from her childhood when he told her, “I can’t be your father.” She reflected on the emotional scars this left on her.
Jada also delved into her own mental health struggles, including suicidal thoughts. “When you’re in that state, logic goes out the window. You just want the pain to stop, and you think the only way out is to end it all,” she said.
Last week, the actress had a one-on-one with Hoda Kotb on NBC’s Today show, where she discussed the shocking details of her memoir, including her long-term separation from Will. “It may not be a legal divorce, but it’s a separation nonetheless,” Jada told Hoda.
The “Girls Trip” star revealed that she and Will have been leading “entirely separate lives” since 2016, although they never officially filed for divorce.
Over the years, the couple has been the subject of various rumors, to which Jada responded, “I get why people would be confused, but none of it is true.”
The separation, which began seven years ago, has been a well-guarded secret, effectively kept out of the public eye.
The couple first met on the set of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” and got married in 1997. They are parents to Jaden and Willow Smith. Will also has a son, Trey Smith, from his previous marriage to Sheree Zampino.
