An influencer found herself infuriated after being denied boarding onto her flight due to arriving late at the departure gate.
Flying can be a stress-inducing experience, often involving early arrivals at the airport to ensure smooth travel. However, former UK Love Island star Malin Andersson encountered unexpected obstacles during her recent travel escapade.
Venting her frustration on her Instagram story, Andersson criticized Ryanair staff for their lack of understanding when she arrived just a mere 120 seconds late to the gate. She recounted the incident, stating, “So, we missed the flight, we missed the gate, by 120 seconds, literally three minutes. They [Ryanair] were really, really harsh, no sympathy – Ryanair are absolute bulls***.”
Andersson was en route to Sweden for a family vacation but was delayed at the gate as she tended to her daughter’s needs, including changing her diaper. This delay, however, was met with unforgiving gate closure policies. Changing a diaper might seem like a reasonable parental duty, especially when considering the comfort of the child and the fellow passengers.
Adding to her bewilderment, Andersson observed other passengers still boarding the plane, leading her to question the disparity in treatment she received. “The plane was still there on the ground – we could see people boarding it but they wouldn’t let us through. It was so bizarre,” she expressed. She further criticized the gate attendant’s attitude, sharing, “I’ve never known anything like it, the woman at the gate, gate 33, was so rude and so blunt. We were like three minutes late – I had to change Xaya’s nappy before she did a poo. So, yeah, Ryanair you’re cr**.”
In a subsequent video, Andersson found herself in an airport hotel with her daughter, awaiting the possibility of catching a later flight to Sweden.
Ryanair, in response to the incident, highlighted their policy that requires passengers to be present at the boarding gate before its closure, as specified on their boarding pass. The airline explained that had Andersson adhered to this requirement, she would have been able to board the flight, alongside the other passengers who met the timing.
The situation poses a dilemma, considering both the airline’s operational protocols and the unpredictability of infant care. Balancing these aspects is complex, as airlines strive to ensure smooth operations while also acknowledging passengers’ genuine concerns.
Public opinions on this matter might vary, acknowledging the need for adherence to rules while empathizing with real-life situations that can arise during travel.
