Expert Says Parents Should Ask Babies For Permission Before Changing Their Nappies

Viewers were left stunned after a sexuality expert suggested parents should ask babies for consent before changing their nappies.

Deanne Carson, a self-described “sexuality educator, speaker and author,” made the claim during an ABC interview.

The segment focused on consent laws, but her comments quickly stole the spotlight.

The Suggestion That Sparked Confusion

Carson explained that parents should create a “culture of consent” in the home from the moment a child is born.

She admitted babies can’t give verbal permission but argued there are other ways to communicate.

According to Carson, parents should use eye contact and watch for body language before changing nappies.

“You’re letting that child know their response matters,” she explained.

When the reporter questioned her claim — asking in disbelief, “From birth?” — Carson doubled down on her stance.

“Yes,” she replied. “Just about how to set up a culture of consent in their homes.”

Viewers React To The Comments

Unsurprisingly, many viewers were baffled.

One wrote: “So, clearly not an expert.”

Another added: “How might a baby refuse consent?”

Social media was quickly flooded with memes and sarcastic takes on the segment.

Carson Responds To Backlash

Carson later addressed the criticism in a lengthy Facebook post.

“Sadly, some people have chosen to ridicule me,” she wrote.

She mocked comments about her pink hair and sexuality before defending her position.

“The work we do with children, teachers and parents is international best practice in abuse prevention,” she added.

Despite her defence, the original clip continues to resurface online and spark fierce debate.
