Elon Musk Says Grimes Became ‘Way Less Gay’ After Pregnancy

Grimes has shared that her experience of queerness changed significantly after becoming a mother.

“I became way less gay after I was pregnant,” the singer, who has three children with ex-partner Elon Musk, wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday. She went on to explain how motherhood affected her mental focus, adding, “My ability to focus on reading and writing went way up, as did my general creativity, but my ability to focus on technical things went way down. Is this all explained by hormones?”

When a fan responded, suggesting that Grimes’ feelings might be due to “being in a heterosexual relationship with a bigot,” the 36-year-old Canadian artist quipped, “I feel like that shud [sic] make me more gay tho.”

Grimes, born Claire Boucher, shares three children with Musk, 53: sons X Æ A-12, 4, and Techno Mechanicus (nicknamed Tau), 2, as well as daughter Exa Dark Sideræl, also 2. She gave birth to X in May 2018, while Exa, who goes by Y, was born via surrogate in December 2021. In September 2023, it was revealed through a biography of Musk that the pair had secretly welcomed their third child, Techno, in June 2022. However, little is known about him, and it remains unclear whether Grimes gave birth to him or used a surrogate once again.

The former couple, who were in an on-again, off-again relationship from 2018 to 2022, have been engaged in a heated custody dispute. Last September, Grimes made a public plea, asking Musk to let her see their son in a tweet that was later deleted. Shortly after, the “Oblivion” singer filed a “petition to establish parental relationship” with Musk.

Just three days before Grimes’ filing, Musk had submitted a petition in Texas to become the legal parent of their two sons and daughter. A legal expert shared that Musk likely filed in Texas to secure more favorable child support terms than he would have received in California.

Despite the ongoing custody issues, Musk has been frequently seen traveling with their eldest son, X. The Tesla CEO brought him along to major events, including the 2024 Super Bowl in Las Vegas in February, and later to Germany in March to visit the Tesla Gigafactory.
