Chris Pratt has addressed the criticism he has received over the years, comparing himself to Jesus Christ and referencing The Bible.
The actor has been subject to criticism due to his alleged ties to an anti-LGBTQ church and his recent casting as the voice of Mario in The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
However, Pratt has dismissed the criticism, stating that it is nothing new and that he has chosen to distance himself from the world.
During a New York screening of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Pratt was asked about the criticism he receives for his Christian faith.
He responded by quoting The Bible and drawing a comparison to Jesus Christ: “If I was of this world, they would love me just like that but as it is, I’ve chosen out of this world. That’s John 15:18 through 20.” Pratt continued, “That’s the way it is, nothing new, 2,000 years ago they hated him, too.”
It is worth noting that Pratt officially denied attending Hillsong Church, which is known for its anti-LGBTQ beliefs, in June 2022.
However, he does attend Zoe Church, which has close ties to Hillsong and was modeled after the controversial church.
While some may find Pratt’s comparison to Jesus Christ to be questionable, it is not uncommon for individuals to reference religious figures when facing criticism.
Pratt’s comments highlight the challenges that individuals in the public eye can face when their personal beliefs are scrutinized.
Regardless of the controversy surrounding him, Pratt has remained focused on his work in Hollywood.
His upcoming role in The Super Mario Bros. Movie has been met with mixed reactions, but the actor seems unbothered by the backlash.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Pratt stated, “I’m just honored to be able to play Mario, and I’m excited for people to see the movie.”
While it is unclear if Pratt’s comparison to Jesus Christ will help him win over his critics, it is clear that the actor is unafraid to speak his mind and defend his beliefs.
