As the anticipation for the upcoming U.S. Presidential election grows, Cher, like many Americans, is getting increasingly concerned about the possible outcomes. With the contest slated for next November, the field includes an array of candidates from various political backgrounds. From Donald Trump vying for the Republican nomination to Joe Biden seeking another term, it’s a political landscape rife with questions and concerns.
Cher, in particular, is vocal about her apprehensions regarding the election, especially when it comes to Donald Trump. The legendary singer and actress expressed her concerns in an interview with The Guardian, stating, “I almost got an ulcer the last time. If he gets in, who knows? This time I will leave [the country].”
This isn’t the first time Cher has made such a threat. Back in 2016, when Trump faced off against Hillary Clinton, Cher, like many celebrities, couldn’t fathom the idea of Trump becoming the U.S. President. She mentioned at the time that she might have to ‘leave the planet’ if he won.
Yet, when Trump did secure victory, Cher didn’t depart for the moon or Mars aboard one of Elon Musk’s spacecraft. She remained in the United States, as did several other high-profile figures, including Whoopi Goldberg, Snoop Dogg, Amy Schumer, and Samuel L. Jackson.
Miley Cyrus, in a moment of post-election despair, declared, “My heart is broken into a 100,000 pieces…I am moving if [Donald Trump] is my president! I don’t say things I don’t mean!”
However, in the aftermath of the election, she called on Trump to have an open mind during his tenure. Amy Schumer also clarified her comments post-election. She mentioned that the interview where she suggested she would move was in London and said in jest. She criticized those who told her to ‘pack her bags,’ asserting that such statements were as problematic as those who voted for a leader she characterized as a ‘racist, homophobic, openly disrespectful woman abuser.’
The tension surrounding the election and the potential consequences of its outcome are shared by many, including Cher and numerous celebrities who weigh in on the political discourse. With the election still far off, time will tell who will emerge as the next President of the United States, but one thing is for sure, it won’t be without its share of fervent opinions and impassioned commentary.
