14-Year-Old Wins Top Young Scientist Award for Inventing Soap that Treats Cancer

Heman’s invention, the melanoma treating soap (M.T.S), is composed of a combination of salicylic acid, glycolic acid, and tretinoin.

These components are keratolytic agents that reactivate dendritic cells, helping to protect the skin and enhance immune responses. What’s even more remarkable is that the soap costs just 50 cents per bar to produce.

For his achievement, Heman received a $25,000 prize to support his research and inventions. His journey to this point has been far from typical for a 14-year-old, as he devoted eight months to develop a basic prototype of this cancer-treating soap.

In an interview with Fox News, Heman expressed his amazement at his accomplishments: “It’s so crazy, it’s so surreal to even think about it right now! The most difficult part was probably creating that first prototype.”

While Heman has created a groundbreaking medical product, his ultimate career goal is to become an electrical engineer. He shared his vision for the next 15 years on the Young Scientist Lab website, emphasizing that he aims to have a fulfilling personal life and give back to the community by mentoring aspiring engineers and supporting STEM education initiatives. He aspires to be a successful electrical engineer leading a team of professionals in developing innovative electrical systems that will shape the future of technology and make a positive impact on the world.

John Banovetz, the Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at 3M, commended Heman and the other young finalists for their remarkable skills and contributions, highlighting the increasing need for scientists and innovators to address the world’s most pressing challenges. Banovetz emphasized that the complexity of the issues these young minds are working to solve is inspiring, and he congratulated this year’s finalists, expressing excitement about their future contributions to science and innovation. Heman’s remarkable invention and promising future are testaments to the power of young minds and their potential to drive significant change in the world.
