Victoria Beckham Opens Up for First Time Ever about David’s Alleged 2003 Affair

The storm that battered their relationship was fueled by persistent rumors and allegations of David’s involvement in an affair—an accusation he has vehemently denied.

In a revealing Netflix documentary that delves into the intricacies of their relationship, Victoria Beckham sheds light on the turmoil that unfolded behind closed doors.

The year was 2003, and David had recently embarked on a major life change, moving from the UK to Spain to join Real Madrid—a transition that had profound implications for both him and Victoria. In the Netflix documentary, Victoria candidly shares her perspective: “It was the hardest period because it felt like the world was against us.

Here’s the thing—we were against each other if I’m being completely honest. You know, up until Madrid, sometimes it felt like us against everybody else, but we were together, we were connected, we had each other. But when we were in Spain, it didn’t really feel like we had each other either. And that’s sad. I can’t even begin to tell you how hard it was and how it affected me. It was a nightmare. It was an absolute circus—and everyone loves it when the circus comes to town, right? Unless you’re in it.”

Victoria admits that during this tumultuous period, she felt a deep sense of resentment towards David and describes it as “the most unhappy I have ever been in my entire life.” Despite the emotional turmoil, she chose to internalize her pain, driven by her desire to support her husband’s football career.

David, on his part, reflects on the difficulty of preserving their marriage amidst the relentless media scrutiny surrounding his alleged affair. He acknowledges, “There were some horrible stories which were difficult to deal with. It was the first time that me and Victoria had been put under that kind of pressure in our marriage.” He elaborates, “Every time that we woke up, we felt, you know, there was something else, and you know we felt that, we both felt at the time that we were not losing each other but drowning. But ultimately it’s our private life. There were some days I thought, ‘How am I going to go to work? How am I going to go on that training pitch and look as if nothing is wrong?’ I felt physically sick every day when I opened my eyes. How am I going to do this?”

In a surprising twist, Victoria Beckham reveals that participating in the Netflix documentary has been a therapeutic experience for her. She acknowledges, “I probably didn’t realize until I started this, shall we call it, ‘therapy,’ I feel at peace with a lot of what maybe in our first session [of interviews] was still a lot of pent-up anger, frustration…I understand it now.”

The director of the docuseries, Fisher Stevens, acknowledges the challenges of broaching this sensitive aspect of the Beckhams’ lives. He explains, “It wasn’t pleasant, but we got into it. For me, I approached it as, ‘How did your marriage stay together?’ and you’ll see how he responds.”

Victoria and David Beckham’s decision to share this deeply personal chapter of their journey in the Netflix documentary offers a glimpse into the complexities of maintaining a high-profile marriage amidst adversity. Their openness serves as a reminder that even the most glamorous and iconic couples face their share of challenges and vulnerabilities.
