The Duffer Brothers have officially confirmed that a Stranger Things spin-off is in development. They have also revealed what the new project will explore.
The original series ended on December 31, 2025, with a finale that ran for more than two hours. The episode, titled The Rightside Up, brought the story to a close almost ten years after production first began.
Following the finale, creators Matt and Ross Duffer spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about the future of the franchise.
During the interview, they addressed long-running questions about whether the Stranger Things universe would continue beyond Hawkins.
A New Story Linked to Vecna’s Past
Matt Duffer pointed to the backstory of Vecna, also known as Henry Creel, as a key area of interest. Jamie Campbell Bower portrayed the character throughout the series.
In season five, viewers saw more of Henry’s memories. One scene showed him as a child confronting a frightened scientist in a cave.

After the scientist shot him, Henry killed the man and discovered a strange stone inside a briefcase. The object appeared to carry a dark force that influenced his mind.
Matt explained that this moment was intentional. “There are lingering questions about the rock, where it came from, and the scientist,” he said.
He added that the finale included a clue connected to the spin-off. “The spin-off is not about rocks or mining,” he clarified. “But that loose end will be tied up.”
An Entirely New Mythology
Matt stressed that the upcoming series will introduce a fresh mythology. While it connects to Stranger Things, it will not retell the same story.

“This spin-off does connect and will answer some lingering questions,” he said.
Ross Duffer agreed and noted that Henry’s storyline was left open on purpose. The show never fully confirmed whether Henry was manipulated by outside forces.
However, the brothers made clear that the new series will not focus on the Mind Flayer or the Upside Down. They emphasized that Hawkins’ story is complete.
“It feels like we’ve said everything we wanted to say about these characters and this world,” they said.
Saying that work is about to officially kick off on the next chapter, Duffer concluded: “We’re actually really excited, and it’s very exciting to work with a clean slate: completely new characters, new town, new world, new mythology.”
For fans, the spin-off promises answers—but through an entirely new lens.
