Lily-Rose Depp makes Rare Comments about Dad Johnny amid Cannes Backlash

Lily-Rose Depp has provided rare insights into her father, Johnny Depp, amidst the backdrop of the Cannes Film Festival.

Both Lily-Rose and Johnny made waves at this year’s festival in Cannes.

Lily-Rose unveiled her new series, The Idol, while her father attended the premiere of the historical drama Jeanne Du Barry.

Despite facing some backlash, Johnny Depp received an astounding seven-minute standing ovation after the screening of his latest film. Following the premiere at Cannes, Lily-Rose has shared uncommon remarks about her father.

She expressed her delight in the success of Jeanne Du Barry and her own projects.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight on Tuesday, she said, “I’m super happy for him. I’m super excited. And it’s so awesome that we get to do projects that we’re super proud of.”

The premiere marked Johnny Depp’s return to the spotlight after his highly publicized defamation trial against Amber Heard, which he won in June 2022. Despite the notion of a “comeback,” Depp emphasized that he had never truly left.

Jeanne Du Barry features Johnny Depp in the role of Louis XV. The director and star of the film, Maïwenn, delivered an emotional speech, expressing her gratitude to her lover, producer, and the entire team involved in the challenging production. While Lily-Rose showcased her new series, The Idol, it received mixed reviews, with one critic deeming one episode “straight-up p**nographic” and alleging her exploitation.

Nevertheless, others praised Lily-Rose’s performance, with Deadline describing it as “riveting.” The premiere of The Idol at Cannes was met with a standing ovation lasting five minutes.

However, the show found itself embroiled in controversy following a report by Rolling Stone. Thirteen alleged cast and crew members expressed discomfort over the show’s content, going so far as to accuse showrunner Sam Levinson of creating a “r*pe fantasy.”

In response, HBO issued a statement expressing their satisfaction with the production while acknowledging that the initial approach and early episodes did not meet their standards, leading to a change in direction.

Amidst the glamour and mixed reviews, Lily-Rose Depp’s supportive words about her father and her own projects shed light on the family’s experience at the Cannes Film Festival.

The festival remains a platform for celebration and critique, highlighting the complex nature of the entertainment industry.
