Fans were astonished to learn that Evanna Lynch, who portrayed Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter series, dated her co-star for nine years in secret.
It turns out J.K. Rowling was quite the matchmaker.
Now, it’s no secret that Harry Potter has gained a colossal fan base since the first book came out way back in 1997, and while the films have been a huge part of helping hook audiences across the globe, it was the book that first sparked imaginations.
Now, there are a lot of things that J.K. Rowling regrets about Harry Potter…
Firstly, we all knew Hermione was meant to end up with Harry… I mean, Ron, seriously?
Rowling addressed this in an interview with The Sunday Times, explaining: “I wrote the Hermione/Ron relationship as a form of wish fulfillment. That’s how it was conceived, really.
“For reasons that have very little to do with literature and far more to do with me clinging to the plot as I first imagined it, Hermione ended up with Ron.”
Then there’s the brutal death of Fred Weasley… we still haven’t recovered.
In 2015 Rowling Tweeted her long overdue apology to fans, writing: “Today I would just like to say: I’m really sorry about Fred. *Bows head in acceptance of your reasonable ire.*”
However, a separate Harry Potter drama has suddenly taken the internet by storm, and this one even affects real life!
You might recall Emma Thompson from the movie series where she played Professor Trelawney, the Divination instructor. You might not be aware, though, that she was previously married to Kenneth Branagh, who played Gilderoy Lockhart in the Harry Potter series.
However, it now appears that their union was not a joyful one. In actuality, adultery tainted it. According to rumours, Branagh had several relationships, including one with Helena Bonham-Carter, another Harry Potter actress.
Yes, you read that right. Gilderoy Lockhart cheated on Professor Trelawney with Bellatrix LeStrange. And recently, Emma Thompson has spoken out to the New Yorker about the betrayal.
“I was utterly, utterly blind to the fact that he had relationships with other women on set. What I learned was how easy it is to be blinded by your own desire to deceive yourself. I was half alive. Any sense of being a lovable or worthy person had gone completely,” she revealed.
However, in a different interview, Thompson also revealed that she has since moved on from the betrayal.
“I’ve had so much bloody practice at crying in a bedroom, then having to go out and be cheerful, gathering up the pieces of my heart and putting them in a drawer,” Thompson explained in an interview with The Telegraph.
“That is… all blood under the bridge. You can’t hold on to anything like that. I just think… pfft. It’s pointless. I haven’t got the energy for it. Helena and I made our peace years and years ago… she’s a wonderful woman.”
And it might come as a surprise that they weren’t the only Harry Potter actors to have a complicated relationship in real life.
Evanna Lynch who famously played Luna Lovegood had a nine-year relationship with co-star Robbie Jarvis, who played a younger version of James Potter in the fifth movie, Order of the Phoenix.
The pair dated in secret until 2015 when they went Instagram official, but unfortunately, not long after the pair split.
However, it appears there’s no bad blood between the two, as Lynch told Us Weekly (via The Mirror): “We’re both vegans, so we go to a lot of vegan events together.
“So yeah, we’re good friends,” she added at the premiere of the Harry Potter spin-off movie, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
It looks like the movies brought a lot of people together!
