According to recent reports, Elon Musk is planning to construct his very own town for SpaceX and The Boring Company employees to live and work in. The proposed town, called “Snailbrook” in reference to The Boring Company’s mascot, will be located about 35 miles outside of Austin, Texas.
Musk and his associates have purchased at least 3,500 acres of land over the past few years with the intention of transforming the location into the utopian town of Snailbrook, which will sit along the Colorado River.
The vision for Snailbrook is described as a “sort of Texas utopia” by Musk and his employees, with plans to build around 110 prefabricated homes on the land.
The streets of the subdivision have already been given names like Waterjet Way, Boring Boulevard, Porpoise Place, and Cutterhead Crossing.
The town will feature a variety of amenities, including a swimming pool, an outdoor sports area, and a gym. There are even plans to construct a small school within the town.
While Musk will oversee all the purchases, his ex-girlfriend Grimes and Kanye West reportedly discussed the idea of Snailbrook last year.
The town will be situated near both SpaceX and The Boring Company facilities, making it convenient for employees to travel to work.
The Journal reported that Musk plans to offer the homes at cheaper prices, with ads for The Boring Company employees claiming that staff can rent two and three-bedroom houses for as little as $800 per month.
The billionaire has previously expressed concern over affordable housing, issuing an “urgent” plea for more housing in Austin, Texas in 2021 as SpaceX and Tesla looked to fill hundreds of jobs in the area.
In response to this, Musk planned to establish a new city called Starbase at SpaceX’s launch facilities in Texas. However, it remains unclear whether the city was ever fully established.
The town will also include a private compound for Musk, which is expected to be located outside of Snailbrook.
The compound will likely feature high-end amenities and luxurious features for Musk and his family to enjoy.
Spokespeople for SpaceX and The Boring Company have not commented on the reports, nor has Musk himself.
However, the town of Snailbrook could be a significant development in Musk’s efforts to provide affordable housing for his employees.
The billionaire has always been keen on exploring new frontiers and pushing boundaries, and his plans for Snailbrook may well be another example of this innovative and ambitious mindset.
