Angela Bassett’s Face When She Lost the Oscar to Jamie Lee Curtis Is Breaking Hearts

Unfortunately, Angela Bassett didn’t win Best Actress in a Supporting Role at the 2023 Oscars on Sunday night, and her reaction to her loss is breaking hearts.

Instead Everything Everywhere All at Once actress Jamie Lee Curtis took home the award, which completely surprised the audience, as Bassett was considered the frontrunner to win.

Nominated for her role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, it’s not the first time the 64 year-old has found herself in a similar situation. – At the 1994 Oscars, Bassett was nominated for Best Actress for her role as Tina Turner in biopic What’s Love Got to Do With It?, but was beaten by Holly Hunter.

Fans have picked up on Basset’s reaction when Jamie Lee Curtis was announced as winner, calling it ‘heartbreaking’ as she showed visible disappointment in her loss. Some fans are even saying she was snubbed.

The actress looked “crushed” in comparison to fellow nominees Kerry Condon and Stephanie Hsu, and has of course, been received with mixed reactions from Twitter users.

Some have labeled the reaction “shady” and titled her a “sore loser,” however, many have come to defend the actress, saying that how she handled the situation is completely justified.

”Angela Bassett’s reaction to Jamie Lee Curtis’ name being called…you can tell how much that Oscar would have meant to her. she is, was, and always will be incredible. I better see her on that stage SOON,” said one Twitter user.

”THEY GAVE JAMIE LEE CURTIS AN OSCAR FOR A MOVIE SHE WAS BARELY IN BECAUSE THAT STUPID INDUSTRY BEEN IGNORING HER HER WHOLE CAREER…ONLY TO ALSO IGNORE ANGELA BASSETT WHO IS BEYOND DESERVING OF THAT AWARD,” wrote another at her defence.

”Wow, they actually snubbed #AngelaBassett … You could see the defeated, broken look on Bassett’s face,” said a third.

”Me stealing the oscar to give it to Angela Bassett #oscars,” a fourth joked.
